The Newborn Home Visiting Program (NHVP), in an effort to promote the agency’s Take Care New York goal of “Having a Healthy Babyâ€, offers home visits to families with a new infant on breastfeeding and safe sleep practices; education on maternal and infant health issues; conducts home environmental assessments and makes referrals for health and social service supports. NHVP serves families in the District Public Health Office neighborhoods in the South Bronx, North/Central Brooklyn, and East/Central Harlem. The Program has embarked on a new initiative to provide services to women in homeless shelters throughout the five boroughs. These neighborhoods and populations have among the highest rates of infant mortality and other poor health outcomes among children in New York City. The clerical position for this innovative initiative will provide administrative support for the client referral process and establish and maintain office functions. This person will also assist the NHVP team working with women and newborns residing in shelters. Duties and Responsibilities Under the direction of the Borough Site Director, the Clerical Associate will: • Answer telephone calls, take messages, respond to telephone calls expeditiously and professionally, make follow up calls, make copies, send faxes and keep files updated. • Support appropriate routing of client referrals, manage calendars and schedule appointments • Provide general administrative assistance to Site Director, Supervising Public Health Advisor, Public Health Advisors and Public Health Assistants. • Prepare requisitions and memos, maintain office supplies, forms, brochures and perform data entry. • Liaise with central office, maintain inventory of all items including: office supplies, client incentives and items distributed to staff • Participate in Program-sponsored events, for example: crib distribution and assist senior management in other assignments
